Below are a list of potential issues you could encounter and some suggestions for how to troubleshoot and solve it.
1. High Percentage of Security Terminates
If you're experiencing a high percentage of security terminates, check the "dtect Status Description" in the Progress export for specific reasons:
dtect Status Description | Possible Solution |
---|---|
Automation Detection | Enable or disable automation detection |
Location Validation | Contact your supplier - high percentages of participants failing the Location Validation may indicate coordinated fraud |
Location Lock | Verify that you're targeting your supply correctly. Ensure project specs match participant countries |
Device Deduplication | Check if the supplier is using the correct entry link. Verify the dtect Entry URL in the progress export |
IP Deduplication | If your survey targets an audience with shared IP addresses (e.g., schools, offices), consider adjusting this setting |
duplicate ID | Verify the supplier is using the correct entry link. Check the dtect Entry URL in the progress export |
quota stop | Auto Pause is enabled and target completes reached. Adjust target completes or disable Auto Pause |
project draft | Launch your project to begin data collection |
project paused | Resume your project to continue data collection |
project closed | Re-launch your project to continue data collection |
supplier paused | Navigate to your Suppliers dashboard and un-pause the desired supplier |
supplier disabled | Navigate to your Suppliers dashboard and re-enable the desired supplier |
attempted retry | Participants are repeatedly trying to access using multiple tabs/windows. Consider adjusting security settings |
user chose to return | Participants are opting out of dtect security checks. Review supplier instructions |
missing device fingerprint | dtect unable to fingerprint participants. Check for potential technical issues |
missing IP address | Contact dtect support if this occurs frequently |
preflight not run | dtect was unable to run on this participant. Check for potential technical issues |
Attempted to reenter screener after completion or termination | If you see a high percentage of security terminates with this status it could indicate a coordinated attack |
Security checks incomplete | dtect was unable to run its security checks on this participant |
Attempted to bypass security checks after termination | After being terminated the participant attempted to access the survey through dtect again |
2. High Percentage of Drops
If you feel the percentage of drops is high, consider the following:
- Check if there are any other statuses or sub-statuses that are abnormally high, this could help indicate why some are dropping out
- Download the Progress Export CSV and examine the ids and links for similarities
3. Unexpected Over Quota Respondents
If you're seeing unexpected over quota respondents:
- Check if Auto Pause is enabled and the Target Completes have been reached
- Verify the project status (Draft, Paused, or Closed)
- Check individual supplier statuses (Paused or Disabled)
4. Issues with Supplier Redirects
If supplier redirects aren't working as expected:
- Review the redirect setup in the supplier settings
- Verify that all variables (e.g., Panelist ID, project-specific variables) are correctly placed
- Test the redirects using the Test Entry Link
- If issues persist, consider re-entering the redirect information
5. Language Issues
If participants are seeing the wrong language:
- Remember that dtect uses the participant's browser language setting
- Verify that the desired languages are supported in the article Multi-Language Participant Experience.
- For unsupported languages, participants will see English by default
6. Testing Link Issues
If you're having trouble with test links:
- Ensure you're using the Test Entry Link, not the Live Entry Link
- Verify that you've replaced the {ID} placeholder with a test ID
- Remember that security checks are disabled for test links
7. Data Not Appearing in Progress Export
If data isn't appearing in your Progress Export:
- Verify that you're looking at the correct data (Test vs. Live)
- Check the project status (Draft, Paused, or Closed)
- Ensure that suppliers are active and not paused or disabled
- Verify that the Export Report has finished generating
- Double check the link being used to test and ensure it's using the correct uref value for the supplier/project combination
8. Unexpected AI Usage Detection
If you're seeing unexpected high AI usage:
- Review the open-ended questions in your survey
- For B2B tech audiences, higher AI usage may be normal due to familiarity with AI tools
9. Problems with Location Validation
If Location Validation isn't functioning correctly:
- Ensure it's enabled in Security.
Remember, if you encounter persistent issues or need further assistance, don't hesitate to contact dtect Support.
